Roblox is a user-generated content platform whose players build the experiences other players visit. It has by a wide margin the largest population of any platform discussed as a metaverse, and a native payout rail that has distributed real money to creators for years — in exchange for scarcity and tenure that the publisher grants and can revoke.
Why operators build there anyway
Because footfall is the precondition capital cannot manufacture, and Roblox has it. A venue on Roblox has an audience on day one that an open world cannot supply at any price. The cost is that the ground is not yours.
The risk to price in
Everything you build exists under terms of service. The platform can change the economics, the discovery algorithm or the rules at any release, and has. The mitigation is to carry the customer relationship out on portable identity, so a rule change costs you a venue rather than your business.
